A Heart of Love

Posted on

Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:37-39

A Christian has a heart filled with God’s unconditional love which draws us closer to the Lord, fills us with peace and joy, and drives us to serve the Lord. All the commandments in the Bible become our Godly character with a heart of love. It’s love that drives us to put the Lord first in our lives and to always please him.

The key to Christian life is love, and love comes from God when we know his Word and we live for Christ. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:8) Love is our connection to God just as the Father, Son, and Spirit are united by perfect love. Love increases in our hearts as we reflect his love to others, and the closer we are to ministering souls, the more love enter our hearts.  The more we pray for others with a caring hearts, the more love in our hearts.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. (1 John 4:16)  We are to live in love and we do this because the Spirit of Christ lives in us.  A heart of love motivates us to be with the Father and the Son, both in this life and in eternity.  Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3) We are eternally minded waiting to be with the Father and the Son.  This drives us to give God priority in our lives and increases our ability to fight off sinful temptations.

A heart and mind filled with God’s love drives out toxicity such as fear and unforgiveness. “Not only does other-centered love increase when we worship a God of love, but sharp thinking and memory improve as well. In other words, worshiping a God of love actually stimulates the brain to heal and grow.” (The God shaped Brain, by Timothy R. Jennings, M.D., Pg, 27.) We are created to have a mind of love just like Jesus.

Today think about the love God has for you, that he sent his Son to the cross to save you for eternity.  That’s how much the Lord wants you to be with him in Heaven and bless you for all eternity. Tell others how God loves them and wants all to be saved.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your perfect love and I pray you continue to fill my heart with your divine love.  Help me to tell others about your love for them. In Jesus’ name, Amen
