Worldly Desires Pass Away

Posted on

The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

1 John 2:17

The world and its desires definitely pass away when we leave this world, and our worldly desires will decrease as we become more spiritually minded. Our earthly body craves things of the earth but worldly things never continue in satisfying our spiritual soul, but can our soul continue in satisfying our physical cravings?

The Spirit provides life to our soul and the more our thoughts are spiritually oriented, the more our soul is satisfied. The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you–they are full of the Spirit and life (John6:63). From this verse Jesus is telling us the Spirit gives life to our soul and the flesh counts for nothing in satisfying our soul.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. (Romans 8:5). If our hearts are revealed by our thoughts, then what happens to our worldly desires when our thoughts are according to the Spirit? The more our thoughts are directed toward the Spirit, the less they are on the world and its desires. We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands (1 John 2:3). The priority in our hearts changes to minister to lost souls and less about our worldly desires as we walk in obedience to the Lord.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Christians live with a thankful heart knowing heaven is our home and the Lord is always with us. A thankful heart is a satisfied heart, content with what the Lord provides for our worldly needs. He enables us to provide the needs for ourselves and our families, as we give God priority in our life and walk in Godly wisdom. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33).

Therefore when our soul is filled with the love, peace, and joy from the Holy Spirit, and when our thoughts of our heart are centered on God and serving him, our soul is fulfilled eliminating the need for searching the world for things to satisfy our soul. We are satisfied because heaven has come to us through the Holy Spirit.

Today focus on spiritual things, seek to encourage others, and reflect Christ to everyone. This is our divine calling. Being Christ-like, pointing people to Christ will become the top priority in our life, and the cravings of worldly things will essentially disappear.

Prayer: Lord, guide me in the Spirit to live for Christ and let this be the number priority in my life and in every area of my life. Let my soul be fulfilled by the Spirit always seeking to be closer to you, while my worldly desires are satisfied. In Jesus name, Amen
