Do We Understand God’s Ways?

Posted on

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Isaiah 55:8-9

Do you understand God’s answers to your prayers, or does he sometimes appear not to answer them? For example we prayed for my elderly cousin suffering from cancer and when the doctors operated to remove the cancer, it was gone. Then a few years later her husband got cancer and we all prayed, and he died. Why didn’t God heal her husband? I believe we all have experienced this lack of understanding, but it is critical as to how it effects our faith.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. (Isaiah 40:28) Ever since man and women were created, we have been wrestling with God trying to understand his ways. I have come to the realization that he is God, and I am not god. If I could understand everything about God, would I need faith? It is impossible to understand God’s ways living in this physical world, because we cannot fully understand from the earthly perspective.

The response to not fully understanding God’s thoughts and ways, is to surrender and trust him fully, walking in freedom as his servant. We give God control because his thoughts and ways are higher than ours, meaning they are eternal and divine. Our responsibility is to obey the Lord making Godly wise choices as he leads us through life to our heavenly home. It is great freedom when we walk as his servant giving the Lord control and responsibility, relieving us from trying to control things. We may not understand all of God’s ways but we will experience the blessings of his ways in our life.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6) Trust the Lord with all our heart following his divine ways, and seek to understand his ways, but always know that his ways are perfect. We may question God’s ways, we may argue with God’s ways, but remember he is God.

Today walk in freedom as the Lord’s servant, guided by the Holy Spirit. The Lord will guide you, giving life to the full and making your paths straight toward eternity with him. His love is perfect and his guidance is perfect, therefore trust the Lord completely and remember he is God and we cannot understand all his thoughts and ways until we enter our heavenly life.

Prayer: Lord I will trust all your ways, and will give you my best to follow your divine guidance through the Spirit. Know my weakness and use it show your strength. Guide me to show others the fulfilling life that comes from trusting you. In Jesus name, Amen
