The Lost Sheep

Posted on

"What do you think? If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.”

Matthew 18:12-14

This verse tells us the importance of one soul to God and also tells us how important all Christians are to the Lord. We don’t see ourselves as just one of millions of people, but we see ourselves as special in the eyes of God. But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).

God has the capability to focus on each of us as if we were the only person on the planet. Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism (Acts 10:34). God doesn’t compare us to anyone, but he looks at our hearts and molds us into the people he created us to be. It is critical for us to know the truth of the infinite love God has for us and how important we are to him. It’s not based on feeling special, and it’s not based on pride, but it’s based on knowing that we are special to God. Knowing we are special in his sight gives us thankful, secure, humble hearts that live for Christ.

When we minister to others, it’s essential that we know that we are God’s special possessions and that the person we are ministering to is also God’s special possession. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, (Philippians 2:3). We walk through this world knowing that each soul is infinity loved by God, and that God’s heart hurts for anyone who has rejected Christ. Each person’s eternal destiny is their own choice and God wants all to be saved. God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:3).

When we know the infinite love that God has for his children, it changes our hearts to reflect that love. It motivates us to bring the truth of how important each person is to God. When we truly understand the loving, caring heart that God has for us, it changes our hearts to please him and trust him. How can we not trust God who loves us and cares for us more than we can imagine?

Today be mindful of the perfect love and care the Lord has for you, and know that walking in his will brings blessings, both in this life and in our eternal lives. Reflect his love, and if the opportunity arises, tell someone of their infinite importance to the Lord. Be sure to treat others based on the love the Lord has for them and their importance to him.

Let’s Pray: Lord help me to always know the love and care you have for me, and keep me humble and secure. Guide me in the Spirit to minister to others, and remind me of the love you have for people and their importance to you. Help me to always show respect to others and to reflect your loving, caring heart. In Jesus name, Amen.
