Our Love For the Lord

Posted on

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment.

Matthew 22:37-38

Jesus states the first and greatest commandment is our love for God. How do we show that we love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind?  Is it possible for us to know if our love for the Lord is pleasing to Him?

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) If we turn this verse around we can say that our faith pleases God. Trusting God to lead our life through the Holy Spirit is how we show our love to the Lord. This is how King David became a man after God’s own heart. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ (Acts 13:22) When we obey God we are a person after God’s own heart.

When we trust the Lord to guide us through life it shows our love for him, that we know him, and we believe his promises. We trust the Lord to guide us in making wise decisions, and how would our life be if we could always make Godly choices? There is nothing in our life that is too small for God, and there is nothing that is too big for God. He is interested in every detail of your life because he is interested in you and loves you perfectly.

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. (Romans 12:3) This tells us to think about ourselves in accordance to the faith God has given to us. Therefore our faith can be a measure of our love for the Lord. The more faith we have, the more we trust walking in his will, the more love we show to God. If you love me, keep my commands. (John 14:15)

Our faith will increase as we become closer to the Lord by reading the Word and experiencing him in our lives. We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. (John 2:3) The more we know and experience the Lord, the more faith we will have. There is no limit in how much faith and trust we can have in the Lord, because it is based on an ever closer relationship with him.

Through prayer, invite God into your current situation and ask him for help. Seeking the Lord’s divine help is pleasing to him and shows our love to him. The more we invite the Lord into our life, the more we will experience him in our life. Today know that the Lord is with you and that he will help you through your day, because he loves you and you are important to him.

Prayer; Help me Lord to realize the perfect love you have for me. Let the Spirit remind me to seek your wisdom as I go through the trials of this day. Thank you for your love and care, for your desire to be with me, and to help me through every moment of life. In Jesus name, Amen
