Light and Fellowship

Posted on

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:7

Walking in the light is walking with the Lord; it is walking in obedience with his good and pleasing will. But how does walking in the light, bring fellowship, and draw Christians together?

God is molding all Christians to conform to the likeness of his Son. Therefore, all Christians have something in common, Christ. Christians have the indwelling Holy Spirit, where there is perfect love between the Father, Son and Spirit. Since our souls are connected to the Spirit, we are divinely connected to the Father, Son and to other Christians. And we have fellowship, first with the Father and the Son, then with our Christian family.

Now we each have unique personalities which means we tend to be closer to some Christians than others. However, over and above our personality differences there is God’s love in our hearts through the Spirit that joins us together. Beloved, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God (1 John 4:7).

God’s love is an unconditional love that reaches out to everyone with kindness and caring hearts. This unconditional love makes us holy because it is a forgiving, compassionate love, and it is a love that no one can take away from us. God’s love is truth and light which we bring to people with encouragement and hope. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Now if each Christian is reflecting the light of Christ, then how much more powerful if everyone in the fellowship is reflecting the light? This unity in the light is what draws people to the fellowship. We point people to the Kingdom by inviting them to fellowship, because the church is the Kingdom on earth. He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father–to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen (Revelation 1:6).

Today, reflect the light of Christ to everyone and join in fellowship with other Christians where the light shines brighter. Know all those in God’s family are our Christian brothers and sisters for all eternity, and we are connected by God’s love in our hearts.

Let’s Pray: Lord, let your light shine through me, and let your truth reach the hearts of those living in darkness. Guide me in the Spirit to bring others into fellowship where they can fully receive your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen
