Knowing God

Posted on

Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.

1 Chronicles 29:11

Knowing God the Father is something I have found takes meditating deeply on what the Bible tells about Him. Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? (John 14:9)  Jesus told Phillip that “anyone who has seen me has seen the Father,” which implies the heart of Jesus is the same as the Father’s heart, a heart of love and compassion. We recognize the heart of God through Jesus because he descended from Heaven to live as a man so we can strive to have the same heart as Jesus.

We understand God as the Father, Son, and Spirit, but do we comprehend in our hearts the infinite capabilities of God? Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)  Think about this statement, that all things are possible for God, which means there is nothing in all creation that is impossible for God.  He created the universe by his divine words, which shows the infinite power he has through his words, and the same power is in the Bible.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. (John 4:7) We know that God is love, and his love is infinitely powerful.  When we give our best to live for Christ, the Lord is pleased with us and his love fills our hearts.  His love is so powerful, it takes away fear from Satan. If we fully know God’s love for us, we will overcome the world and always seek to be closer to the Lord.

He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen. (1 Timothy 6:15-16) God the Father lives in unapproachable light which no man can see. The power of God through perfect light, with no darkness, exemplifies his infinite power and he is sinless. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9) God’s knowledge and wisdom is infinitely above our knowledge and wisdom.

God has perfect love for us, he has infinite power, infinite knowledge, and infinite wisdom.  If we meditate on these things and see God as the creator of all things, he will reveal is greatness to us.  When we see God for his greatness, we will not be able to find the words to accurately describe Him.

God is self sufficient and needs nothing, but He loves us so much and wants to be with us in Heaven, that he sent his Son to take the punishment for our sins.  God wants us to be with him in Heaven more than we can imagine, and he paid the ultimate price to redeem us. The next time you pray, be thankful the creator of all things loves you and hears your prayers.

Today, think deeply to know God, his love, his power, his knowledge, his wisdom and that all are possible for Him.  The more we know God, the more we are willing to submit to his perfect will as his servants.  Today, think of the privilege we have to be servants for the almighty loving God, creator of all things.

Prayer:    Lord, fill my heart with divine understanding of your greatness, that I will truly know you through Christ.  Let your divine love, power, knowledge, and wisdom be revealed through me. On my own I can do nothing, but through Christ I can do all things.  Thank you, Lord, for loving me a sinner with a repentant heart seeking forgiveness through Christ, my Savior. In Jesus’ name, Amen
