Know the Word

Posted on

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.

Revelations 19:13

When Christ returns, he will judge the world by the Word of God, and his robe dipped in blood reveals that salvation is only through Christ. Most people have a Bible, and they have their entire life to read and understand it, but many people never read it, or rarely read it because it is easier to believe Satan’s lies.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12) The Word is alive because Christ places thoughts in our minds as we read the Word; and the thoughts are based on the circumstances in our life.

For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2:11) We must have the Holy Spirit (Spirit of God) to fully understand the Word, and for it to be alive in our life.  With the Spirit and with prayer for understanding, every scripture will speak to us.

If we have experienced the Lord’s commands in our life, then we can teach it to others better. We need to know the Word because every comment we make should be backed-up with the Word of God. When we minister to others we must bring them the Word, because the Word is God speaking to them.

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (Joshua 1:8) It’s important to think deeply about the Word because if just read it causally, it will never leave short-term memory, and we will forget it. If we meditate and think deeply about the scripture that we are reading it will go to long-term and we remember it.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22) It’s important to obey the Lord’s commands, and not just know them in our minds. We are judged by obeying the Word, and God has given everyone talents to obey Christ. When we obey the Word, being light in this world, our hearts are changed by God’s love, and we are motivated to bring Christ to everyone. Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21) When we are guided by Christ, we are obeying the Fathers will.

Today take time to read the Word, and focus deeply on what you are reading. The more we live by he Word the more meaningful the Word.

Prayer:  Help me through the Spirit too understand your divine Word, and to experience your Word so I can explain it to others.  In Jesus name, Amen
