Divine Power to Overcome
To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
Revelation 3:21
Satan tempts us and he deceives us, but we overcome the temptations and we destroy any foothold that Satan may have in our life. The problem is that we may not be aware of a sinful behavior, especially if we have a self-righteous attitude. This is a deception that Satan often uses to activate our self-will. But we always have the divine power and wisdom from Christ to overcome and recognize any foothold from Satan. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8)
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:7 ESV) This verse tells what we need from the Lord to overcome any temptation or deception from Satan. The key to overcoming is self-control which is the ability to know when Satan is tempting us. The power to do God’s will over our emotional will – is love. We first use self-control to stop and think, and then, call on the Lord’ power.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) The more time we spend being still inside, praising and thanking the Lord, the more we can control our emotions. Most all of Satan’s temptations touch a self-centered emotion because he knows how difficult it can be to overcome that emotion.
A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back. (Proverbs 29:11 ESV) If we can hold back our emotional feeling, we can overcome Satan’s temptation. To have self-control we need the ability to control over our emotions. It often takes time for the emotional feeling to leave us, but self-control is the ability to respond to the sinful emotional temptation with Godly wisdom. We capture each thought and emotion and bring it to the Lord, and the Spirit guides our escape.
Today, know you have the divine power of Christ to overcome. Don’t let Satan use the world to tempt you through an emotionally driven thought, but stop and seek Godly wisdom. Live today with a heart of love, peace, and Godly wisdom..
Prayer: Lord, give be the power to overcome fear, and to have self-control with a heart of love. In Jesus name, Amen
