Can We See Ahead?

Posted on

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

John 16:13

Do we seek to guide our lives believing we can control the future, control other people, and control situations? For years I thought I could control people and situations only finding frustration as many times things did not work as I planned. Not only did I fail to control the world around me, I often could not control myself. How could I possibly expect to have any influence on the world if I couldn’t control myself?

We read in the above verse “and he will tell you what is yet to come.” How does the Spirit tell me what is to come? The Word is spiritually discerned and reveals to us the many prophecies that are yet to come. Also, the Spirit reveals Godly wisdom to us, helping us to think about the probable consequences of our choices. Upon following the Spirit we are able to see the divine consequences of our Godly choices, and this gives us insight to the outcome of following the Spirit. It’s not important that we fully understand the future, but it is extremely important that the Lord knows the future. Through his knowledge he guides us in his perfect love and power.

If we truly believe that the Lord guides us through our lives because he loves us perfectly, then our faith is greatly strengthened. We fully trust all of God’s promises and we develop patience to wait on the Lord, anticipating his divine wisdom revealed in our lives. This is the faith that pleases God and gives us peace and rest for our souls.

It’s a true blessing that the Lord is willing to guide us through our lives as his servants, freeing us from the frustration of trying to control everything.  It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1) The expression of the blessings and feelings of freedom in Christ are beyond words. Only Christ can set us free from the world. There is nothing from the world that can give us the satisfaction and contentment that comes from trusting the Lord and becoming his servants.

When we become the Lord’s servants, giving him control, an amazing thing happens. Our minds and hearts become more Christ-like, and our desire is to fulfill the Lord’s will. Through this transformation as servants we experience control for the first time in our lives. We are not only free in Christ, we are in control through the power of the Holy Spirit. We are no longer controlled in this world by Satan and his demons, but we are controlled by the Spirit, both in thought and emotion.  It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)

Today, fully trust the Lord in every step knowing he can see the future, understand everything about your current situation, and know the hearts of all those involved. He will guide you in the Spirit based on his divine knowledge and understanding. Living in his divine knowledge and wisdom is a great advantage in every situation in life.

Let’s Pray: Lord, thank you for guiding me in your divine wisdom. Thank you for helping me to be in tune with the Spirit so I can reflect your wisdom and love to everyone. The Word says If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing (John 15:5). Help me, Lord, to remain in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
