Ambassador for Christ

Posted on

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.

2 Corinthians 5:20

An ambassador by definition is “a diplomatic official of the highest rank sent by a government to represent it on a temporary mission in a foreign country.” We are ambassadors representing Christ on a temporary mission here on earth and after our mission is over we go home to heaven. God gives us a highest rank because we are his servant his special possession, the Holy Spirit lives in us, God is always with us, and heaven is our home. But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)

If we realize that we are ambassadors for Christ, we live for Christ giving him control. Since God is in control and we are his servant, he takes the responsibility. We are responsible for following his will through the Holy Spirit, giving the Lord our best in whatever he calls us to do. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. (Colossians 3:23) Being an ambassador gives us a divine mission, helps us to put the Lord first, and brings us closer to the Lord.

We see our self as an ambassador for Christ to every human being we encounter, which includes family, brothers and sisters in Christ, friends, strangers, and our enemies. The apostle Paul was always aware that he was an ambassador for Christ as we see from his life and his words. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. (Ephesians 6:19-20) Everything we read about Paul tells us he was on a mission and never deviated from it. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. (Galatians 2:20) This verse clearly shows that Paul represented Christ and the following verse tells us his home is in heaven. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:20)

How do become an ambassador in our hearts, always aware of our mission in this foreign country? This is a process that occurs naturally as God molds us to conform to his Son. The process is to continue to read his Word, pray, fellowship with our Christian family, bring Christ’s caring heart to others, and your motivation to serve the Lord as his ambassador will continue to fill your heart. We come to know God’s love and serving him as an ambassador in this temporary life is the greatest most fulfilling thing we will ever know this side of eternity.

Today remind yourself that you are an ambassador for Christ in a foreign land, heaven is your home. Seek to be closer to the Lord than anyone or anything on this earth. Putting God first and seeing yourself as an ambassador for Christ will help you in all your relationships because you will represent Christ to everyone.

Prayer: Lord, help me to always be aware of the mission you have given me, and never forget that I am an ambassador for Christ. Help me to live as an ambassador, letting Christ live through me, guided by the Holy Spirit, and knowing my home is heaven. Guide me to be free in Christ and let others witness this freedom. In Jesus name, Amen
