You’re in a Race for Your Life

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Hebrews 12:1-2

This is a life-long race that we run with perseverance, and we win when reach the finish line with the greatest reward possible. We run the narrow road to eternal life and we see the Light at the finish line which is God’s glory. We persevere in this race which means we overcome through the power of God any obstacle Satan places in our path. Satan’s goal is to keep us from finishing the race because he knows how great our reward is, but he doesn’t want us to know.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28) This verse tells us that if we keep running the race we will finish, because the Lord will work everything for our good. We have the ability through the power of the Lord to overcome every obstacle and every temptation in life, but sometimes we fail and seek forgiveness and he gives us more power to overcome.

Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4) What more could the Lord do for us, everything works for our good and we have the power of God to overcome the world. There is nothing in all creation that can keep us from walking with the Lord and finishing the race to our eternal reward.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10). The Lord, in his loving kindness, carries us through life, giving us life to the full. And this full life doesn’t depend on the world around us because this life comes when the Lord pours Heaven into our soul through the Holy Spirit. This means our soul is connected to the Lord living in the kingdom while our flesh lives in the world. Christians have divine ability to separate our flesh from our soul, because our spiritual soul can be closer to God than it is to the sinful nature of our physical flesh.

The apostle Paul learned to live in the Spirit when he said, “I have learned to be content in all situations.” I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)

Today, remember the Lord has given us everything we need to finish the race to our eternal home. He fills us with his Spirit and Christ through his perfect love and power will carry us through life to our eternal home, because his victory on the cross gives victory to all who race with faith. Today, live with Lord’s love and power as the Spirit guides you to victory.

Prayer: Lord, your love and kindness is beyond words. You have done everything possible through Christ, enabling me to persevere through life to my permanent home. There aren’t words strong enough to convey thanks; all I can do is surrender my life to the Lord’s good, pleasing, and perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen
