Work while There is Light

Posted on

I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

John 9:4-5

Jesus is the light of the world and since we have the Holy Spirit we are the light of the world. The Lord is telling to us work now because darkness may come when no one can work. Jesus was saying night was coming because he was shortly going to sacrifice his life on the cross. It’s good if we can serve the Lord today, otherwise it might be too late, because we never know when night will come for us. If we seek opportunities to minister to others every day, we will know we gave our best to the Lord and didn’t waste a day of life that he given us.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16) We are careful how we live, to live Christ-like making the most of every opportunity. A missed opportunity to minister to someone could be the only opportunity you will have. Look at a deliberately missed opportunity to minister to someone as a moment of darkness, because we didn’t reveal the light of Christ. Every single opportunity is important because we may never know the outcome when we bring God’s love to others.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9) Sometimes we get weary or busy and we overlook an opportunity to minister to someone who needs an encouraging word. This is something that we all experience but I have found no matter how tired or busy I am, if I minister and help someone the Spirit gives me energy and a content and joyous heart that comes from the Lord.

Today minister to everyone, starting with a kind uplifting word, and seek every opportunity to let the light of Christ shine brightly to everyone. Live this day to the fullest for the Lord because we never know when night will come.

Prayer: Lord, guide me in the Spirit to fulfill your will today — to be a light for Christ. Thank you for the Spirit who keeps me on the narrow road serving you. In Jesus name, Amen
