Wisdom from God

Posted on

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

James 1:5

How does God give us wisdom? Wisdom is something we learn over time, that requires knowledge and experience. So what can God put in our life that gives us wisdom?

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 3:7) This wisdom comes from a person filled with God’s love, secure in Christ, and humble. Therefore as we pray for wisdom, how does God expedite the process? If we follow the Spirit he will guide us into situations where God’s love will increase in us. When we reflect his love, ministering to others, we develop more dependence on the Lord, his Word and wisdom.

Therefore the quickest way to acquire a heart of wisdom is to follow the Spirit as he leads us to minister to others. However if we are ministering to others and not praying for wisdom or remembering applicable verses in his Word, we might revert to worldly wisdom. Actually it is easy to switch back and forth between Godly wisdom and worldly wisdom. For example we can minister to someone in our own wisdom rather than communing with the Lord for Godly wisdom. Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16) This verse is telling us to be very careful to use Godly wisdom in every situation, to stop and think and not make a decision unless it can be backed up by scripture.

We are blessed if we are always trying to use Godly wisdom. When we respond in Godly wisdom no matter how people treat us, we are reflecting the heart of Christ. Godly wisdom will help in all our relationships, especially within our family. Living in Godly wisdom takes patients and self-control. Normally we cannot exhibit Godly wisdom if we speak directly from our emotion, because it doesn’t give us time to think. We have all experienced this by wishing we could take back the words we have spoken.

Today seek Godly wisdom in every choice, including your thoughts, words, and actions. If we can keep our thoughts connected to the Lord it will calm us thereby helping us with Godly wisdom. If a conflict occurs that tends to make you uncomfortable or angry, hold the emotional response and seek Godly wisdom. My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, (James 1:19)

Prayer: Lord, help me to walk through this day with your wisdom in my thoughts, words, and actions. Guide me into your wisdom when engaging with other people, independent of how they speak to me. Thank you for making me more Christ-like. In Jesus name, Amen.
