The Will of God for My Life

Posted on

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 7:21

Jesus spoke these words to his listeners during the Sermon on the Mount, and this is what he says to us today. God’s plan for your life is to do the will of the Father. This is done through understanding the Lord’s will from the Word, and following the guidance of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters (Romans 8:29). When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are predestined to have the mind and heart of Jesus. God uses everything in our lives to mold us to be Christ-like in our thinking and to have a heart filled with his love.

This is God’s will for our lives. He molds us to conform to the image of his Son so our lives will conform to the life of Jesus. Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did (1 John 2:6). As we live a life that reflects Jesus our hearts are filled with his love and we develop a close, personal and dependent relationship with our Lord. The closer we are to the Lord the more our lives are driven to serve the Lord, desiring a closer relationship with Him and a better understanding of who he is. This is God’s will for our lives, to be like Christ, to live lives like Christ, and to have a close, loving relationship with him.

If God’s will is to make us Christ-like so that we live as Jesus did, we should take a look at the life of Jesus. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20). This is God’s will for every Christian, to represent Christ to everyone, reflecting God’s love and pointing them toward the Kingdom.

Jesus’ ministry consisted of teaching not only in the synagogue, but he travelled throughout the region teaching the Good News to whomever would listen. His travels took him to Bethany, Cana, Capernaum, Sychar, and Nazareth. Jesus went into the world to the people and we are to do the same. We minister to people wherever we go because we are motivated to bring the message of Christ to lost souls. This is God’s will for our lives, to have the heart of Christ and to be motivated to bring His message to lost souls. This becomes the divine meaning of our lives.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving (Colossians 3:23-24). This is the life that is pleasing to God and it is the most fulfilling life we can live. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10).

Today, seek to serve the Lord by being a light for Christ. Live your life to the full by living for Christ, guided by the Holy Spirit. Trust the Lord, pray, and walk in obedience to his divine will.

Let’s Pray: Lord, guide my life today to live for Christ and fill my heart with your love, peace, and joy as I put all my trust in you. Draw me closer to you every day and motivate me to be a light for Christ in this dark world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
