Where is Your Treasure?

Posted on

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:21

Our hearts are revealed by our thoughts, and the Lord knows our every thought and emotion. The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. (Genesis 6:5) Therefore if we examine our thoughts we can determine our treasure. Are our thoughts more about worldly treasures, or are our thoughts more about the spiritual treasures?

What is a heart that is pleasing to the Lord? Ask yourself, “what is the highest priority in my life, is it worldly or is it God?” Anything we treasure above the Lord becomes an idol. We can examine our thoughts and determine our priorities. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2) The mind of a Christian should always be connected to the Lord no matter what they are doing. Our thoughts are speaking to God, and sometimes without words, but by conscious awareness that we are connected to the Lord. We handle all our needs and desires through the Spirit, making Godly wise choices.

How can someone obtain a heart that continually changes to be more Godly? A burning heart is a heart that is on fire for God, and this is a heart that pleases God. (Daily Message – January 27, 2018, “Hearts Burning”) A burning heart seeks to be closer to the Lord and is highly motivated to minister in this lost world.

Reading the Word renews the mind, but God looks at the heart. Our minds are spiritual and our brains are physical; however the mind normally reflects what is in the brain. When the Spirit controls our minds and our thoughts, it rewires our brains to the ways of God, and unwires sinful thoughts of the world. When we minister to others and become personally involved in pointing souls to Christ, our hearts start to change to be more like the heart of Jesus. From your reading of scripture of Christ’s ministry, what do you think was the focus of his heart? We are being molded to the mind of Christ so we will live a life like Jesus.

Today seek a heart that is pleasing to the Lord. Focus on doing his will and handle all situations today with Godly wisdom, with a heart of love, and with patience. Become the Lord’s servant knowing that he is in control, helping you through every step of your day with his love, power, and wisdom. Live for Christ today and he will be your treasure. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (Proverbs 4:23)

Let’s Pray: Lord I pray for a pure heart and that my treasure will always be found in you. Keep me focused on serving you and walking in your divine wisdom and love. Thank you for continually changing my heart to be more like the heart of Jesus. In Jesus name, Amen
