Where is the Kingdom of God?

Posted on

And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Luke 17:20-21

When Jesus ascended into heaven he established his Kingdom, and Christians are in his kingdom even though we are living our physical lives here on earth. We are in the family of God when we receive the indwelling Holy Spirit which is the pledge of our inheritance. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:13-14).

Through the indwelling Holy Spirit we gain spiritual access into the Kingdom. Our thoughts are spiritual, so if our thoughts are directed toward the Kingdom then we are spiritually in the Kingdom, even though physically we are in the world. The more we meditate on the Word and focus on things above, the more we are in the Kingdom.

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one (2 Thessalonians 3:3). We are in the Kingdom and the Lord strengthens us and protects us from the evil one. The more love we have in our hearts the closer we are to the Lord and the more we are in the spirit. As we are being molded to the mind and heart of Christ, we are moving more into the spirit and into the Kingdom of God.

When our thoughts are directed toward God in prayer or meditation on his word, the more we experience the heavenly nature of the Kingdom. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). In the Kingdom of God we experience love, peace, and joy, while it drives our fear, worry, and anger away. While we live in the flesh we cannot experience perfect love, peace, and joy; however we can always experience more. Once we reach our heavenly Kingdom where we are in the presence of the Father and the son, we will experience infinite love, peace, and joy.

While living in the flesh we can have peace that transcends understanding. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid (John 14:27). Jesus gives his people peace from heaven that continually feeds our souls and his love takes away our fear. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). The kingdom of God is within us, where we find God’s love, peace, and joy that transcends understanding.

Today, try to keep your thoughts focused on things above because it will keep your soul more in the Kingdom. Practice this and you find love, peace, joy, and all the fruits of the Spirit becoming stronger in your life. This brings rest for your soul, contentment, security, and an increase in your faith.

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me realize I am in the Kingdom even while I live in the flesh. Let this thought help me to be secure knowing you are always with me. Thank you for bringing me into your family, into the Kingdom of God. Please guide me in the Spirit to point others towards the Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen
