When Life Hurts

Posted on

Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

In this fallen world there is hurt and pain that cannot be avoided, such as illness, divorce, loss of job, troubled children, accidents, or the death of a love one. There is an endless number of things that can cause us hurt and distress, and it impacts us emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The Jesus experienced physical and emotional hurt and pain, and death when he went to the cross. Therefore he understands and experiences our hurt, and he has the love and the power to comfort us. The Lord is close to those who are hurting, if we go to the Lord for comfort. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (Psalm 34:18)

When we experience hurt and pain, it will be controllable and balanced with love, strength, and hope that God pours into our hearts. Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10). As we reveal our hurting heart to God, he offers comfort and hope, and gives us the strength to continue on in life fulfilling our divine purpose.

If we see ourselves as ambassadors of Christ, as a servant of God, then we minister and comfort others that are hurting. There are things in my family that are life-threatening, which leads me closer to the Lord in prayer and serving. I am comforted when the Lord directs me to comfort and provide hope to those around me. Love is what frees us from ourselves, and comforting others, showing God’s love and compassion for others, gives us comfort. And the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (2 Corinthians 1:4)

When we talk to a close trusted Christian friend about our hurt and distress, and receive love, support, and hope, we can receive some healing.. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. (James 5:16) This verse is talking about confessing sins, but telling about our hurt, our trouble, or our fear, will bring us the same healing. Having a close loving Christian friend in times of hurt is always comforting and helps us to go through the difficult times in life.

Today be comforted by the Lord for any hurt, pain, or worry that you may experience. Go to the Lord in prayer and ask for comfort, faith, hope, strength, wisdom or whatever you need to be comforted. See yourself as Christ’s ambassador and your assignment is to comfort others by bringing God’s love and truth to others. And seek a close Christian friend for support.

Prayer: Lord I pray for your comfort and your strength today. Help me to be a light in the darkness, bringing comfort and hope to others through your love and compassion. Thank you for comforting me from fear and replacing it with your love and hope. In Jesus name, Amen
