What Takes Priority in Your Life?

Posted on

When Jesus heard this, He said to him, “One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.

Luke 18:22-23

Jesus knew this man’s money was more important to him than following Jesus and having treasures in Heaven. He was more concerned about his treasures on earth. The Lord looks at our hearts which is reflected by our thoughts which reveals our priorities.  The Spiritual war is between Satan tempting our priority to be in the world and having our priority in God and eternal life.

You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own. (Leviticus 20:26) We are holy just as the Lord is holy, which means we do not conform the pattern of this world.  If we are truly holy, God is our priority.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, (Colossians 3:23) If we do everything as working for the Lord, if we follow the Spirit by reflecting Christ, and if our heart’s desire is tell others about Christ, then God is our priority. Giving the Lord priority means we are dependent on Christ being with us and guiding us in everything we do in life. Christ is our life.

If God is our priority in our life, it will be revealed by our thoughts. Our priority comes from a heart filled with God’s love because love connects us to God. Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7) The word know means we have a close relationship with the Lord, and love motivates us to serve the Lord which draws us even closer to the Lord.

Today, seek to serve the Lord by being a Light for Christ and being mindful of giving the Lord priority. Do everything as doing it for the Lord and reflect Jesus in doing everything.

Prayer:  Lord, guide me in the Spirit to do everything as doing it for you. Help me to always give you priority in life knowing I am serving you at all times.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
