What is a Godly Attitude?

Posted on

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

Philippians 2:5

If we are to have the mind of Christ then we should have the attitude of Christ. We will look at scripture and determine the attitude God wants us to have. We will also determine how we can have a Godly attitude in this fearsome troubling world.

Put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. (Colossians 3:10). To have a Godly attitude then we must be a new creation in Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit, in order to be renewed in the knowledge of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2:11).

Now if we are to have a Godly attitude, and the Holy Spirit is the character of God, then let’s look at the Spirit. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23). The Word tells us to live by the Spirit, therefore we should have an attitude of love, peace, and joy, living in us feeding our soul. If our hearts are continually being filled with God’s love, then the fear from Satan must be diminishing. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. (First John 4:18).

This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. (First John 4:17). We have a heart of love as we minister to this world, and we walk confidently because heaven is our home. We live with victory in Christ. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (First Corinthians 15:17). We have and attitude of victory as we walk confidently, boldly proclaiming the good news of Christ.

We do not live in fear because heaven is our home. We live with an attitude that we have overcome the world. For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1John 5:4). We have overcome the world so what can the world do to me? The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? (Psalm 118:6).

Therefore our Godly attitude is a restful attitude because our souls are filled with God’s love, peace, and joy. We walk confidently in Christ knowing he is with us giving us victory and helping us overcome the world. We are confident in our eternal heavenly home, and Christ’s love destroys the fear from Satan. With a Godly attitude we are free in Christ. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1).

Today walk with a Godly attitude, knowing the Lord is with you and will lead you to victory. Give any fear from Satan to the Lord and walk in freedom. Through Christ you have overcome the world, because there is nothing in this world you cannot overcome through the power of God. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19: verse 26)

Prayer: Lord, fill my heart with your confident attitude, and with your love that encourages and uplifts others. Continue to make me more Christ-like, so my attitude reflects Christ. Thank you for continually changing my attitude, thoughts, and emotions, to be like yours. In Jesus name, Amen
