What Controls Your Thoughts?

Posted on

The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7

The Lord listens to our hearts which is revealed by our thoughts. The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. (Genesis 6:5) Since the Lord listens to our thoughts, it makes sense we should control our thoughts. Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:1-2)

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans 8:6) From scripture we learn that our thoughts should be governed by the Spirit.  This may sound difficult, but if we pray for the Lord’s divine help and we strive to have our thought governed by the Spirit, it will happen. When minister to the world, love is complete in us drawing us closer to the Lord.

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. (Colossians 3:23-24) If we train ourselves to obey this command, it will aid us in keeping our thoughts on Christ.  If we seek to obey all of the Lord’s commands through prayer for His power, and if we follow the Spirit being a Light on a hill, our thoughts will naturally be on Christ for majority of time.

When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:4) If Christ is our life, meaning we live for Christ, it becomes natural to have our thoughts more on the Lord than the world. When things of God become more interesting and fulfilling than things of the world, and our thoughts will be on things above.

Today seek to control your thoughts and your emotions, because Satan will trigger your emotions to get a foothold in your mind. When our thoughts are on Christ we can depend on His power in our life.

Prayer:  Lord help me to control my thoughts and my emotions, and never let Satan get a foothold in my mind.  Guide me in the Spirit to fulfill your divine will. In Jesus name, Amen
