We Live for Eternity

Posted on

And this is what he promised us—eternal life.

1 John 2:25

Once we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior and are filled with the Holy Spirit, we never die and we have started our eternal life. We will leave this earth for our Heavenly home and we will exchange this earthly body for a perfect body that lasts forever.

The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. (1 Corinthians 15:42-44) When our body takes its last breath, our soul continues living and our soul is our thoughts, personality, and emotions. What would our body be today without our soul? It’s important to realize that our flesh is our earthly suit, it’s part of the world and it’s our sinful nature.

But it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.(2 Timothy 1:10) Just as Christ died in the flesh and arose three days later, we die in the flesh and immediately are raised in our soul.  When Christ returns, we get our immortal perfect body. Thanks to Jesus and his sacrifice for our sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit, we have overcome death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21) These are the words of the apostle Paul who lived for his new eternal life and knew being with Christ is gain. I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; (Philippians 1:23)

Our motivation for Heavenly life is to be with the Father and the Son. Without the Father and the Son, Heaven would not exist. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3) The greatest thing we can ever experience is being with the Father and the Son.  This is our driving motivation to serve and worship him in this life and forever.

Today, realize you are living your eternal life and have conquered death through Christ. Knowing this, live for Christ today with love, compassion, and courage. Experience the freedom of overcoming death knowing you have started your eternal life, even while living in the flesh.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for eternal life through Christ.  Guide me in the Spirit to bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to lost souls. Keep me in the center lane of the narrow road to eternal life. In Jesus name, Amen
