We Know in Part

Posted on

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

1 Corinthians 13:12

We currently know it part, therefore it is necessary that we live by faith. We know in part from the Word, which is all we need to have total faith in God. When we get to Heaven in the presence of the Father and the Son, we will know in full and our faith will be perfect.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. (1 John 4:16) With hearts of love we can have a deeper understanding of God, even though his thoughts and ways are above ours. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9) Even with hearts of love and obedience to the Lord, we get closer to the Lord every day, but we will still only know in part.

Our finite minds couldn’t process knowing God in full, that’s the reason we live by faith. We should be thankful for the Word, and that the Word is alive, meaning we know the Lord more throughout our life. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (Joshua 1:8) The more we meditate on the Word and obey the Word, the more we will understand the Lord.

When we see the Father and the Son face to face in Heaven, we will know in full, as we are fully known. Our brains must be far more powerful in Heaven as they are now, because to know God fully as he knows us, is and overwhelming statement. If we knew God fully in this life, we wouldn’t need faith, we would probably trust his Him perfectly.

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) If it’s impossible to please God without faith that is pleasing to him, emphasizes the extreme importance of faith and seeking to know God.

Today seek to know the Lord and increase your faith, trusting God’s will over your will. Remember we are saved by faith, faith to put our lives in the hands of Christ.

Prayer:  Lord draw me closer to you as serve I Christ, and make my faith always pleasing to you. In Jesus name, Amen
