We Have Power Over Satan

Posted on

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

1 John 4:4

Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, the Lord has given power over Satan’s temptations. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13) God will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear.  He will also provide us with endurance and a way out from Satan’s temptations. This is a promise of God that we can depend on, but we need to exercise this promise and find our way of escape.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7) We can make the devil flee when we call on the Lord for his power to resist the devil.  It is essential that we capture the thought and immediately call on the Lord’s power, through the Spirit, to overcome Satan and sinful temptations.  If we entertain the temptation, our desire to overcome can diminishes quickly.  Therefore, we must capture the thought and immediately call on the Lord.  Calling on the Lord immediately is the difficult task in fighting off temptations, but we can train ourselves to become strong, spiritual warriors and depend on the Lord before the temptation takes hold of us.

Hate evil, you who love the Lord, Who preserves the souls of His godly ones; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked. (Psalm 97:10 NASB) The more we love the Lord, the more we will hate evil.  If we see all of Satan’s temptation as evil, forgetting the temptations might be pleasurable in the short term then we can be victorious in Christ.  Our love for the Lord has to be stronger than our love for our sinful nature. Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me. (Psalm 50:15)

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. (James 1:6) When tempted by Satan, call on the Lord with positive assurance that you will be victorious.  When I was younger, I played baseball and the coach taught us — think victory until the game was over.  Sure enough, that brought out the best is us. Call on the Lord and think victory in Christ.

Today, live in victory and see every temptation coming directly from Satan. Know, through Christ, you have victory of Satan and you will never be tempted beyond what you can endure.

Prayer:  Lord, guide me in the Spirit to be victorious over all temptations.  Thank you, Lord for overcoming Satan on the cross and giving me victory over Satan through the Spirit.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
