Walk in Godly Wisdom

Posted on

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Colossians 1:9

Godly wisdom comes through his Word and it can be defined as seeing the world through spiritual understanding.  Worldly wisdom struggles to cope because it can only see from a worldly perspective. We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.(1 Corinthians 2:6)  Only Godly wisdom from the Word through the Holy Spirit enables us to understand God’s purposes and Satan’s evil goals.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12)  From this verse, we can understand that our struggle is not in the physical, but our struggle is in the spiritual.  We fight evil in this world through prayer, bringing God’s truth to the world to combat Satan’s lies, and we do this through Godly wisdom and understanding.

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.(John 16:13)  Godly wisdom comes to us through the Spirit because Christ speaks to us through the Spirit placing his words into our thoughts.  When we read the Word and if pray for wisdom and understanding, then Christ will speak to us through the Spirit.  If we are still inside and in tune to the Spirit, we will be able to follow the Spirit and walk in Godly wisdom.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.(James 3:17)  God is love and we walk in Godly wisdom with a heart of love.  Jesus showed wisdom many times with his words and actions, and he is our model for Godly wisdom.  In John 8:4-11, Jesus showed wisdom when the Pharisees brought him a woman caught in adultery.  The Pharisees said according to the law of Moses, she was to be stoned. Was Jesus going to have her stoned, or was he going to forgive her and set her free?

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5) Pray for wisdom everyday and walk in the Spirit to exercise Godly wisdom and understanding.

Today, walk in Godly wisdom, listening to the Spirit with a heart filled with God’s love.  Be still inside, commune with the Lord, and listen to the Spirit.  Pray for wisdom in every situation.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to follow the Spirit and to know wisdom from your Word.  Fill my heart with your love and help me to walk today in your wisdom with heart of love. In Jesus’ name, Amen
