Think on Things Above

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Colossians 3:2

The Lord wants us to think on things above because it helps us to see the world through the eyes of God.  We are in this world, but we are not part of this world. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. (John 17:16) When our thoughts are on things above, our soul is in the Kingdom within us, and we are closer to God than we are to the world. We minister to the world but we are not of the world.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Colossians 3:23-24) We reflect Jesus by doing everything with all our hearts as doing it for Christ.  This helps us to keeps our thoughts on things above.

We go through our days aware that we are the Lord’s servant, and our task is to represent Christ at all times; this is our reason for living.  Christ lives in our hearts and guides us to represent Jesus to everyone. So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love. (Ephesians 3:17) We are filled with the Holy Spirit, and Christ lives in our hearts.  When our thoughts are own things above, we are guided by Christ.

Since we are created in the image of God with a heart of love, it is natural to think on things above. We interface to the world through the Spirit which keeps us in the wisdom from Christ. When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. (John 15:26) The Spirit guides us to reflect Jesus, and we walk in the Spirit asking for guidance by Christ.  If we desire to reflect the mind and heart of Jesus, it will be difficult when our thoughts are focused on the world because we need Christ to guide us consciously and subconsciously at all times.

Today, think on things above and do everything as doing it for Christ. Remember, you are a servant and ambassador for Christ in this world and your task is to reflect Jesus with your thoughts, words, and actions.

Prayer:  Lord, guide me through the day to think on things above.  Help me to interface to the world through the Spirit with love, compassion, and wisdom.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
