There is No Condemnation

Posted on

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Roman 8:1-2

The Lord does not want us to condemn ourselves when we have sinned. For seasoned Christians, we don’t condemn ourselves because we fight sin, we have Godly sorrow, we ask for forgiveness, and we overcome. This verse is very important for new Christians because it helps us to overcome old sinful habits. Self condemnation is the process of tearing ourselves down, replacing our confidence with hopelessness.

And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment (John 16:8) The Holy Spirit will convict us when we move toward sin, and bring to our minds righteousness and judgment to guide us in the Godly direction.  Conviction can motivate us to overcome; it doesn’t tear us down, it builds us up. We are convicted with Godly sorrow and we call on the Lord to overcome, seeking his power to overcome every temptation from Satan.

God changes our heart and brings us closer to him when we seek his guidance to overcome sin. Our love for the Lord and a close relationship with Christ gives us his power to overcome. We no longer live by trying to follow the law as a rule book, but the law is written on our hearts. Our heart has changed, and God’s laws are natural, desirable, and rewarding to us. Conviction is needed for changed heart that makes us powerful, spiritual warriors.

Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4) The Lord promises to give us victory to overcome if we ask and follow the Spirit. The feeling that comes from victory over Satan is very rewarding! Victory is virtually nonexistent if we condemn ourselves.

Today, if you do something displeasing to God don’t condemn yourself but let conviction from the Spirit drive your motivation to overcome in the Lord’s infinite power. Fight for victory over sin as you fight for other things in life. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

Prayer: Lord, keep me from condemning myself but help me to have Godly sorrow and conviction that motivates me to overcome. Help me to never give up, but always fight for victory over Satan with your divine power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
