The Workers are Few

Posted on

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Matthew 8:37-38

God created us to be workers in the harvest field, and it is the most fulfilling and rewarding thing a Christian can do in this life. When we live and care about others, and encourage them to find Christ, then we are living life to the full. If life is all about self and receiving God’s blessings, we are missing the true point of receiving God’s blessings. The blessings come when we seek to help others, and point them to Christ, because we have God’s love for others; and if they come to Christ, it is joy beyond words. We cannot do this without Christ, and all the glory goes to Christ.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. (Matthew 5:14) We are a light in this world which means we seek to reflect Christ to everyone, and we ask the Lord to send us out into the harvest. God has a plan for everyone to be light in this world; teach classes, ministering one on one, passing our Christian literature, or helping those in need. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace. (1 Peter 4:10) If we have a heart filled with God’s love, helping others and telling them about Christ, becomes the center of our life.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1) Jesus died in the flesh to save us and we die to self to do the Lord’s will through the power of Christ. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 5:1) We are free in Christ when we are free of self and live for Christ.

Life is in our soul not in our flesh, because the flesh without the Spirit is dead. (James 2:26) That means we never die and Heaven is our home. This is how we can live for the Lord without fear, and point people to salvation in Christ. Someone’s eternal life may depend on us, guided by Christ to bring them the truth.

Today work for the Lord being a light to everyone, reflecting the love of Christ to everyone.

Prayer:  Lord guide me to be a light for Christ, to be worker in the harvest field.   In Jesus name, Amen
