The Word is Alive

Posted on

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

The Word is alive because the Lord will place thoughts in your mind as you read the Word. That is why we read scriptures many times and can get different understanding, especially if we pray before reading the Word, and ask the Lord to identify what we need to know.

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:14) The Holy Spirit is what connects us to the Lord and the Spirit enables us to understand the deep things of God from the Word. When we read the Word, consider it conversation with the Lord; read the Word slowly and focus on the scripture.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105 ESV) When we read the Word, we seek to understand how the scripture speaks to us, and to see how every scripture can impact our life.  It helps tremendously to read scripture and understand how to teach it to others.  Once we know how the scripture impacts us, we can have understanding how it can impact others. Pray that the Lord gives you understanding for teaching the scriptures to others.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22) When we read the Word always do what it says, otherwise we are deceiving ourselves. We experience the Word in our life, then we able to teach it to others because we know how the Word has changed us. It always helps to teach what we have already experienced. The more we experience the Word, the more in depth understanding we have of the Word, and we see the importance of every command in the Bible.

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15 ESV) When ministering to others remember the power is in the words; ask the Lord for the words and scriptures.  The Word is never more alive than when witnessing to others.

Today, read the Word and remember it is alive. Pray that the Lord reveals what He wants you to understand.  Make reading the Word conservation with the Lord.

Prayer:  Lord, let the Spirit make the Word alive, so I can know how every command will change me to be more like Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen
