The Power of Truth

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

John 8:32

Many times Jesus started his words, “I tell you the truth,” because if we don’t know the truth we will follow Satan’s lies. Knowing the truth also helps us when we do not fully understand the ways of God. Through the Bible we find truth that helps us overcome our lack of understanding and builds our faith.

When we live by God’s truth, we learn to trust the Lord. God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? (Numbers 23:19) We know God cannot lie and is faithful. We can believe his promises, his truths, and trust the Lord completely.

The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27) When we pray the Spirit intercedes and also searches our hearts.  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20) Since the Spirit intercedes for us, and God knows us better than we know ourselves, he does immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. If we are completely confident in God’s truths, we can have a faith that pleases God.

Jesus references truth may times so we can be confident in his words. The Lord’s promises, his truths, his faithfulness, and his perfect love are seen through his Son taking our sins to the cross. God’s truth can override any temptation from Satan when we know the truth and recall the scriptures of God’s promises. Grounding our hearts in God’s truth is extremely powerful because it leads to trusting the Lord completely, with no doubt. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) Nothing pleases the Lord more than trusting him with our lives and walking in obedience to his truth.

Today, walk in God’s truth and reap the benefits of living in his love and wisdom. Reap the freedom from living in his truth, and not being controlled by the world filled with Satan’s lies. Let truth prevail when Satan attacks with his lies.

Let’s Pray: Lord, thank you for your truth; for your promises. Help me to live faithfully in your truth, knowing you have given me power over Satan’s lies. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
