The Power of the Word

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

This above verse reveals the power of the Word; it is alive and can change our hearts. The Word has the power of God to change us to become the person that God created us to be.  Where would we be without the Word of God?

People say the Word is out dated, which is saying God is out dated. Man has been the same all through history, only culture changes. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) All scripture is the Word of God, and it is the foundation of the Christian life.

The Word is alive because Christ speaks to us through the Holy Spirit by changing our thoughts. That’s why we can read a scripture today, and read it again days later and have a different understanding. The power of the Word is because it’s the Words of God, and because Christ speaks to us as we read, based on the circumstances in our life.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17) Without the Word of God we would never know God and his faithfulness. Without knowing the Word, we would not know God faithfulness, and our faith would not exist. The more we read the Word, both Old Testament and New Testament, and the more we obey the Word, the more faith we will have.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22) The power of the Word comes when we do our best to obey the Word. Then we go through life with the power of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, (Ephesians 3:20) Christians have the power of God to overcome the sinful world and to be Light for Christ, and this power comes as God changes us to the mind and heart of Christ.

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. (Revelations 19:13) This verse implies that we are judge for our eternal destination by the Word. Many people read one scripture and think they are saved, but there are many scriptures God requires of us to be saved.   Many people have a Bible but rarely read it, and they have a whole lifetime to read it and understand it.

Today read the Word and obey what it says, and live in the power God gives us. It takes faith, knowledge of the Word, a heart filled with God’s divine love, and prayer: to walk in the God’s power.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to read your Word every day, and take your divine words into my heart.  And help me to live with your power to overcome sin and bring Christ to lost souls. In Jesus name, Amen
