The Power of the Church

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

The Lord’s power is in each Christian for the glory of the church, because the church is a global community of believers that is the light for Christ in this world. The power of the Lord in the Church is that each church is a light for Christ.

The church is the body of Christ and each member has a calling from God. Every individual in the Church is connected spiritually through Christ to all other churches in the world. Every member in the church is to be light for Christ locally and light for Christ throughout the world, through prayer. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15)

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:15-16) Every Christian in the church is to be a light for Christ by bringing Christ to those in their community. The Lord will always open a door for each Christian to minister to others.

The local church prays for believers all over the world, because we know our prayers are not limited by geography. Unity is crucial for the power of the church, unity within each church and unity between all other churches and unity starts with prayer. Think of the power in the Christ centered churches if they were to unite in ministry to the community. The church can do amazing things through the power of Christ when they unite in ministry.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20) Jesus is telling us that we are to make disciples for Christ, just as the apostle Paul trained Timothy. The church has a responsibility for being a light in their community and we cannot do that unless we have members who are comfortable being a disciple for Christ.

Being a true disciple requires a heart of love that overcomes fear. A disciple for Christ ministers to everyone because we look at the heart and we are motivated in prayer for the Lord to lead us to anyone that has open heart.

Today remember that the power of the Christ’s church comes from unity, both locally and globally, each church being a light in their community, and each member is a disciple of Christ. We strive for these things, we pray, and the Lord makes it happen because it is all for the glory of the Lord through his church.

Prayer:  Lord, guide me to promote unity in your church and to be your disciple. Guide me in the Spirit so I can always be a better disciple and to be more like Jesus.  In Jesus name, Amen
