The Power of God’s Word

Posted on

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

Imagine what the Christian life would be like if the Word didn’t exist? Be thankful that God inspired men to write the Bible, and for the blessing that the words come from God. “There is nothing to compare to the effect of God’s Word as it reaches out to grip your spirit with its convicting power and then to ignite you spiritually from the inside out.”1

The Word is alive because the Lord speaks to us as we read and focus deeply. Every time we read the Word, it should speak to us, judging the attitudes of our hearts. “A believer will sense the effect of God’s Word if he allows the flames of its truth to erupt in his heart.2   When we read the Word, pray that we hear the Lord’s voice in our thoughts, allowing scripture to pierce our hearts.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119:105) The Word lights our path and enables us to hear the Spirit’s guidance.  “God’s Truth that is embraced shines light into every sphere of life, bringing understanding and eradicating the ignorance that governs darkened minds.3He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. (John 15:2) God changes us to be more like Jesus, and He cannot change us without the Word.  If we think deeply about scripture, about how it speaks to our life, we will be convicted, and we can change.

“There is nothing to compare to the powerful effect of God’s Word when it is taken by faith into the heart and put into action.4” The Word is a necessity to keep the fire going in our hearts to serve the Lord. The Word is essential in ministering to others because the power is in God’s Word.

But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. (Psalm 1:2) The Word is essential to our Christian life and to keep the fire going in our hearts to motivate us to serve the Lord. “God wants us to burn with desire for the depths of the Word. It doesn’t matter how much of the Bible we already know, it holds depths of revelation truth that we have never experienced.5

Today, realize the importance and the power of God’s Word. Always back up your ministry to others with scripture. Speak the Lord’s Word with authority because you have experienced the Lord’s promises.

Prayer:  Lord, open my mind and heart to your Word that I can hear Christ placing his words in my thoughts. Open my heart to live by your divine Word with a heart filled with your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen
