The Power of God’s Word

Posted on

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

The Word of God is powerful in that it changes people when they obey it, and that is because of the Holy Spirit lives in the believer. The Word changes people’s minds and hearts so they become the person God created them to be; created in His image. And when we live in the image of God, we will live life to the full, and Heaven is our eternal home. The Word never gets old, because Christ places thoughts in our minds based on current life experiences.

When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, get baptized and receive the Holy Spirit, become a member of a Church family, read the Word, and pray; then our minds slowly rewire from the way of the world to the way of God. Our minds rewire based on our thoughts, so we change from the sinful worldly thoughts, to thoughts guided by the Word. If God didn’t create us so or minds could rewire, our minds would never change. The mind changes based on our education, it changes based on life’s experiences, and it will change to the ways of God.

The Word is the foundation of the Christian life, and when we obey the Word, the Word goes from our minds to our hearts; and will live out of our hearts, because we live according to what we believe.  When we continue to obey the Word, our minds and hearts slowly rewire to the ways of Christ.  And without the Word people would never change to the ways of God.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22) We read the Word, it has little effect on us if we never obey the Word.  Every command in the Bible is for or benefit, God needs nothing because he self-sufficient, but through his infinite love for us, we receive divine blessings when we obey.

Our soul is our spirit and its our thoughts, personality, and will; and if the spirit leaves the body, the body is dead. As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. (James 2:6) God feeds our soul with continues blessings through the Holy Spirit; love, patience, joy, peace, courage, and whatever we need to overcome Satan’s fear. These blessings occur when we obey the Word.

Many people have a Bible, but many people rarely or never read it. People who don’t know the Word of God, will by default be deceived by Satan. That is why Satan’s goal is to keep people away from reading the Word, so they believe his lies.

Today read the Word, and read it slowly and think about what you are reading and how it can change your life. Every word in the Bible was written to be a blessing, so we can live the way we were created; in the image of God. So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)

Prayer:  Guide me to know your Word, and to help me to obey every command. In Jesus name, Amen
