The Importance of Our Thoughts

Posted on

The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7

God listens to our hearts which is reflected by our thoughts, and he knows everything about us from our thoughts. It is important that our thoughts are controlled by the Spirit and not by the world. If we are not careful Satan will us our emotions to change our thought to things of the world.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2) We can keep our minds controlled by the Spirit, and at the same time work in this world. We do this by interfacing to the world through the Spirit, because the Spirit will guide our thoughts, words, and actions in whatever we are doing. The power of God will control us to reflect Christ is every circumstance in life.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11) God has placed eternity in our hearts, but how often do we think about eternity? Thoughts on eternity is extremely important, because when we die, we will live forever with the Father and the Son, or with Satan and the demons; and this short life is the only chance we have to get right with God.

Satan will detract us from thinking on things above, to thinking about things of the world. But Christ has given the power to always view the world from the Spirit, if our emotions don’t pull us into the world. A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. (Proverbs 25:28) Without self-control, we will periodically fail in being controlled by the Spirit. Christians must be still inside and live with patience, and always be connected to Christ through the Spirit. We should always seek to be in control of our thoughts, words, and actions.

Today think on things from above, because it will bring you closer to Christ and to eternity. We are created to think according to the mind of Christ, and to see this life as our only chance to live for eternal life with the Father and the Son.

Prayer: Lord, help me to live each day for eternal life, according to your Word. Because only the Word tells me how to live for eternal life. In Jesus name, Amen
