The Fear of Change

Posted on

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

Change can be fearful, especially when the future is unfamiliar. When a person comes to Christ, comfortable but un-Godly past habits of coping slowly disappear. God changes people to give them freedom in Christ, to overcome the world, and to live life to the full; yet Satan puts fear in our hearts that tells us to continue living our old lives, even when we know they are sinful and lead us into the darkness of spiritual death.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). We may say we trust the Lord, but fear causes us to lean on our own understanding. If we trust the Lord over our own understanding, we can no longer have the option of our previous ways of living and coping with the world. If we trust our desires over trusting God’s perfect love, then we are trusting Satan and his deceiving ways.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7). God’s people are courageous, because they are sustained in God’s strength through the Spirit. Being a Christian in God’s family is not for the weak and fearful. We overcome and kill the fear that Satan tries to put in our hearts, attempting to destroy the divine strength and power that the Lord gives us. Jesus told his apostles: In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world (John 16:33). Christ lives in us and we have his power to overcome the world. Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4). We walk in victory and overcome the world through the power of God, or we walk in defeat and let the world overcome us, through the lies of Satan. It’s our choice, but don’t forget, God never fails because with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). We walk with God and live in victory, or we walk with Satan and live in defeat; those are our choices.

Today, embrace the change that God wants to make in you, to mold you to the mind and heart of Christ. Seek a strong motivation to change with a heart of optimism, because becoming Christ-like and overcoming the world provides life to the full, and destroys fear from Satan. Today choose to walk with an ever increasing freedom in Christ.

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to overcome any fear from Satan and seek to become more Christ-like. Reveal my heart, and guide me to change my heart to the person you created me to be. Change my heart to embrace change with great optimism of being more Christ-like. In Jesus name, Amen
