The Danger of Fear
Don’t fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine.Isaiah 43: 1
God is love and Satan is fear. In the book of First John, we learn that “perfect love cast out fear,” and love is the opposite of fear. God fills our heart with love from the indwelling Holy Spirit, while Satan tries to fill our minds with fear from the world. Every Christian is attacked by fear from Satan, however every Christian learns to overcome these fearful attacks through the power of God.
Satan primarily attacks us with fear of things occurring in life that we cannot control, such as world terror or financial collapse. There are many things in life that we cannot control, but through Christ we learn to control ourselves. When fear fills our thoughts, it can lead us to chronic worry, restlessness, and it can affect our sleep. This natural response is to escape the chronic affect of fear. This may lead us away from God, and to a worldly escape, such as legal or illegal medication. Satan’s goal is to use fear to drive us away from God. Dr. Timothy Jennings in his book The God Shaped Brain, states: “Fear impairs our judgment, paralyzes our reason, and leads us down the path of selfishness.”
Fear can separate us from God, and is also toxic to our psychology and physical health. Dr. Timothy Jennings states: “But it is the firing of this alarm system that damages the brain, impairs healthy thinking and abuses the body. The longer the alarm fires, the more pronounced the damage.” If fear constantly fires the alarm system in our brains, it creates constant stress impairing our health and weakening our immune system.
Now we see why fear is Satan’s favorite weapon, it can make us self-centered separating us from God, and can impair our mental and physical health. How do we combat the fear and worry that comes from Satan? So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10) Faith is the secret of overcoming fear, and faith comes from knowing God’s love. We are eternally minded and we know the Lord will guide us through life, over every mountain Satan puts in our path, and he will bring us home to live with him forever in heaven. We have overcome the world and we live in victory through Christ our Lord.
Dr. Timothy Jennings states: “Life, health and happiness are only found where love flows free. And love only flows free where the truth about God is known.” God’s love in our hearts frees us from fear, and fills us with confidence because we trust our Lord. We are one with God through the Holy Spirit, and we have already started our eternal life, even though we are still in the flesh.
Today live life to the full, without entertaining the fear from Satan. If Satan attacks, run to the Lord. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7). When Satan attacks with fear, give it to the Lord and exchange it for peace. Let fear trigger peace from God.
Prayer: Lord, give me strength to overcome any fear or worry, and put everything in your hands, as you guide me through the Holy Spirit. I thank you for your love, and for rescuing me from the fear in this world. I pray for freedom in Christ and to overcome the world, as I seek to be closer to you. In Jesus name, Amen
