The Busy Epidemic

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

Is your life busy? Does it move at a fast pace, with an endless list of things that need to be accomplished? Satan’s goal is to keep us busy doing worldly things instead of doing what God has called us to do. Satan will stop at nothing to get a foothold in our lives to slowly pull us away from God by changing our priorities.

So how can we slow down in this fast paced world? I remember as a young kid, sitting on the front porch after dinner; almost always a neighbor would come by and join us. It would be a slow relaxing evening with our good friends. Life was slower and relaxing and we never rushed, yet everything in life fell together. Can it be this way today?

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33). If we really understand this verse and have the faith, God will provide for all our needs if and only if we give him priority. He will guide us through life with His divine ability, enabling us to attain all our worldly needs. He will do this by rearranging our schedules so that we can serve him first; our lives will slow down and be more relaxing and fulfilling.

The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:20-21). Living in the Kingdom is a great way to slow down and relax inside when the world is fast paced. This is done by staying connected to God and directing our souls into the spiritual world through our thoughts. Our souls go where our thoughts go. If we commune with God and interact with the world through the Holy Spirit, we can remain in the Kingdom where there is love, peace, joy and rest for our souls. This is how the apostle Paul could be content in all situations. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:12-13).

Today have the faith to give the Lord priority in your choices and your activities. Trust the Lord by putting the worldly things in his hands, knowing He will help you if you give Him priority. If we don’t give the Lord priority in our lives, then we are trusting ourselves with our time for worldly tasks and not trusting the Lord. Put the Lord first in all things and ask for guidance to achieve the worldly things in your life.

Let’s Pray: Lord I place my life in your hands and will seek to always give you priority. I will trust you to guide me through life as I do everything in service to you. In Jesus name, Amen
