The Broad Road to Destruction

Posted on

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 7:13-14

This verse above tells us that many will enter the wide gate to the broad road that leads to destruction. We will discuss why many people enter the wide gate, and why only a few find the small gate to the narrow road that leads to eternal life.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. (Romans 8:5) Living to please the flesh is easy for people and normally it brings temporary satisfaction.  However, it never brings lasting satisfaction to their souls Most non-believers think walking with the Lord means they will lose their freedom, and the Bible often appears overwhelming to them. This is a lie from Satan because only Christ can give us freedom. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1) Only Christ can set us free from the world because we know Heaven is our eternal home.

Many people on the broad road don’t believe in God or they don’t believe in hell. People can believe anything they desire, but God’s truth always remains unchanged. The great dragon was hurled down–that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. (Revelation 12:9) Today, we can see how Satan has deceived the whole world with his lies that appeal to our fleshly desires. It’s sad that people believe Satan’s lies, and how powerful fleshly desires can be.  Our spiritual war is a life-long battle between our fleshly desires and our spiritual desires.

The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8:7-8) Those governed by their fleshly desires cannot please God, and they will live in the darkness of the broad road to destruction. God listens to our hearts which is revealed by our thoughts to see if we are worldly minded or spiritually minded. Christians interface to the world through the Spirit, while their soul lives in the Kingdom that is within them. Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. (Luke 17:21 KJV)

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.  (Romans 8:6) Our minds are governed by the Spirit and we live with peace from God through the Spirit. We are free in Christ and he gives us divine power to overcome the world.  We overcome death because we know Heaven is our eternal home.

Today, know you are on the narrow road to life, and God is at the end of the road lighting the road to your eternal home. Be careful not to let Satan pull you in wrong direction, toward the broad road of destruction.

Prayer: Lord, guide me on the narrow road to eternal life, and keep Satan from pulling me in the wrong direction. Guide me in the Spirit to bring the light of Christ to the lost world. Light always takes away darkness. In Jesus name, Amen
