The Blessing of Self-Control

Posted on

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23

Self-Control is a fruit of the Spirit, and self-control is very important for a Christian. Self-Control is needed to control our temper, our words, our sinful desires, and our patience. With self-control we are in control, but without self-control we are of control.

Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. (Proverbs 25:28) Like a city lost to the enemy, is a person without self-control. Living without self-control is a person who sometimes controlled by life situations. Their emotions may quickly drive their words, they give in to a sinful desire, or they become impatience. What a burden it is not to have self-control.

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7) The Lord gives us self-control through the Holy Spirit, and if we slow down and be still inside, we can be more relaxed, then we have a better chance to keep our emotions under control.  Sometimes the world will make us mad and that is normal, but with self-control we keep control of emotions and our words.

Impatience is often the cause of anger, because we tend to copy the rushing world. Slowing down and remaining relaxed with peace and joy is powerful way to remain Holy. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (Colossians 3:12) If we are asking for the Lord’s power and his love in our hearts, we will have patience because we care about others and our life is not totally centered on self.

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. (James 1:19) Training ourself to control our words from the Spirit, is a great advantage.  We can control our emotions if we stop and think, and respond with Godly wisdom. But Satan tries to tempt people to speak whenever their emotion is triggered. If we can’t control our emotions, it will difficult to control our words.

Today live with self-control and don’t let the world control your emotions and words. Because Satan goal is for people not to have self-control. When we slow down and have a self-control, life is more pleasant and relaxing; and with less stress.

Prayer:  Father, slow me down today and help me to have self-control in all situations. In Jesus name, Amen
