Staying Connected to God

Posted on

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13

During your day, do you feel close to the Lord, and do you see God working in your life? The verse above tells us, if we seek the Lord with all our heart we will find him. What does he mean to “seek me with all your heart?” And if we find the Lord, how do we stay connected to him and feel his presence?

If we want to know and feel the Lord’s presence then it starts by seeking him, and to seek him with all our heart. Seeking with all our heart means our thoughts are on God and free of all distracting thoughts. We cannot go through our days with our thoughts strictly on God, but we can find quiet times to escape the world and focus strictly on the Lord. Be still, and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10) I find time during the day, maybe five minutes to meditate on the Lord with praise and thanks, escaping the world and feeling close to the Lord.

Seeking the Lord with all our heart means we have a heart for God. If we really want to be close to the Lord we should be pleasing to the Lord. What pleases the Lord is our faith to surrender our lives to his will by giving him control through the Holy Spirit. When we live as his servant, as ambassadors for Christ, following the Holy Spirit being a light in this world, then we can be close to the Lord. We feel his presence as we commune with him throughout the day with praise, thankfulness, and asking for guidance to minister to others. We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. (1 John 2:3) Nothing will bring us closer to the Lord more than serving him and experiencing him in our lives as we minister to lost souls.

Essential to being close to the Lord is learning the Lord’s language, his Word. We can read the Word and have conservation with the Lord and hear his voice as he gives us new insights in understanding his Word. If we read the Word with the objective of how we can use the scripture to minister to others, the Lord will open our hearts and minds to hear his thoughts on how to relate the scripture to current life. But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. (Psalm 1:2) If we carry scriptures in our heart and bring them to our thoughts as we commune with the Lord, we will know and feel his presence.

Summarizing, we can be close to the Lord if we obey his Word by ministering to others, serve him with a surrendered heart, meditate on God and his Word and carry his Word in our heart, commune with the Lord during our day, and learn to quickly be still inside, focusing our heart only on God.

Today seek to be close to the Lord and know and feel his presence. Commune with the Lord throughout the day with praise and thankfulness, and ask him for guidance and help in conversations and your work. Keep a Bible near and read and memorize comforting scriptures, especially his promises. Live this day to the fullest in Christ, with his peace and joy. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:20)

Prayer: Lord, thank you for always being with me and help me to stay connected to you this day. Help me to be mindful to seek the Spirit’s guidance in my thoughts, my words, and my decisions. Keep molding me to be Christ-like so I can always be connected to you and always feel your presence and your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
