Stay Connected to the Lord

Posted on

“The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

1 Samuel 16:7

The Lord looks at our hearts which is revealed by our thoughts. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5 KJV) The Lord listens to our thoughts which reveals our love for the Lord and what motivates us to serve the Lord. It is important that our thoughts are pleasing to the Lord.

I read the following words from The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer.  “Many have found the secret of which I speak and, without giving much thought of what is going on within them, constantly practice this habit of inwardly gazing upon God. They know that something inside their hearts sees God. Even when they are compelled to withdraw their conscious attention in order to engage in earthly affairs, there is within them a secret communion. Let their attention but be released for a moment from necessary business and it flies at once to God again.”  These words hit my soul and I prayed that these words would describe me.

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8) I asked in prayer everyday for many months, and the Lord changed me to always seek to gaze upon Christ by following the Spirit as His servant.  When working on worldly tasks, I do it for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, (Colossians 3:23) Through the Spirit, we can always be aware of the presence of Christ because He lives in our hearts.

When we choose to sin, the Spirit convicts us because Christ lives in our hearts. So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19 NASB95) If we take the time to be still on the inside, we will hear the Spirit convicting us.

Today, realize you can stay connected to the Lord. If you try to achieve this blessing in your own strength, it probably will never happen.  However, if we depend on the Lord through constant prayer, then He will guide us through the Spirit and change us. Be patience, keep praying, and keep striving to stay connected to the Lord. Wait upon the Lord.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to always stay connected to you even when doing worldly tasks. The best life I can have is a life that depends on you and stays connected to you through the Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
