Starting Your Day
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.Mark 1:35
In the morning do you follow a standard routine in getting ready for work? I follow an almost identical routine every morning and I suspect the same for most people. In our morning routine do we include anything that will help us through the day, or do we just think about all the things ahead of us and maybe get a bit stressed or impatient?
We are supposed to be Christ-like and the verse above says Jesus got up before daylight and went off to solitary place and prayed. Getting up early before daylight is near impossible for me, because every morning it is struggle just wake up. If you are able to get up early in the morning and have prayer time with the Lord, you are blessed! However I have managed prayer time and Bible reading for about fifteen minutes before I leave the house.
If Jesus found it necessary to start his day alone with the Father, then I think we certainly should start each day with the Lord. Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. (Psalm 143:8) We pray and tell the Lord we trust him and ask him to guide us through the day with his love, wisdom, and power. Do you think the Lord will guide us through the day if we do not offer this prayer in the morning?
If we start the morning with a prayer of praise and thankfulness followed by seeking his guidance through our day, we will be more confident and primed to stay connected to the Lord throughout the day. Our attitude in the morning can easily be carried into our day, and the Lord wants us to trust him and start each with peace, joy, and confidence in him. This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24). If we thank God each morning for another day of life and ask him to guide us to be a light to everyone, the Lord will carry us through the day guided by the Holy Spirit. He will not only be with us he will go before us. The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. (Deuteronomy 31:8)
Today start your day by adding a few minutes to pray and to read a comforting Bible verse. Seeking the Lord first in the morning is very pleasing to him because it shows your faith and dependence on him. Continue your day connected to the Lord through praise and thankfulness and ask for his help when needed.
Prayer: Each morning guide my heart to seek you through prayer and your Word. Fill my heart with your love, peace, joy, comfort, and guide me confidently through this day, and help me to stay connected to you with an attitude of praise and thankfulness. In Jesus name, Amen
