The Spirit Gives Life

Posted on

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life.

John 6:63

When the Spirit of God comes to live in us, it gives life to our soul. But how does the Spirit give life to our souls and why does the world count for nothing?

Our Spirit is eternal therefore it seeks eternal comfort and security because we are created to live with God where life is perfect. The Spirit dwells in the believer and the fruit of the Spirit is always available for the soul. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) But how do we access this fruit so we know and feel God’s love, peace, and joy. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2) Our soul is in the Spirit when our thoughts are on things above. The more we commune with God and meditate on his Word the more we are in the Spirit, experiencing love, peace, and joy.

The Spirit never leaves us and our soul has found the heavenly life it desperately seeks, however not perfectly because our flesh has a sinful nature that is connected to the world. We experience in part the life our soul seeks in this life, and we experience the life our soul seeks in full in our eternal life. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. (1 Corinthians 13:12)

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.(Romans 8:6) The mind set on the flesh is a mind set on the world which counts for nothing because everything in the world is temporary, and only brings temporary contentment. Things of the world cannot fill our heart with God’s love, peace, and joy, because our soul is designed by God and can only be satisfied by God. Things of the world can only temporarily satisfy the flesh, because the flesh is from the world.

When our soul is fulfilled with love, peace, joy, and security from God through the Spirit, we no longer have to search the world for fulfillment. This means we are free to enjoy the world the way God intended. To live in a world without fear and enjoy things that we probably took for granted before the Holy Spirit came to us. Christians should enjoy the world with a deep heart of thankfulness.

Today walk with love, peace, and joy from the Spirit and refuse to let Satan steal it from you. Fight temptation with the power of God and live today with the life your soul is seeking. Satan will tempt you with desires for the flesh and try to tell you it will satisfy your soul. Only God can satisfy our soul through the Spirit and the more we reveal the fruit to others the more we experience the fruit is in our life.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be filled with the Spirit, satisfying my soul with the life it seeks. Fill me with your love, peace, and joy; and give the power to overcome Satan’s temptations. Help me to reflect your love, peace, and joy to others, so people can see Christ in me. In Jesus name, Amen
