Sin Dims Our Light

Posted on

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

Matthew 5:14

We are light to the world and our light is to be seen as a town built on a hill.  However, Satan wants to make our light as dim as possible and does this by trying to get a foothold in our lives.   His goal is to deceive us so we become self-deceived meaning we are doing something displeasing to God that we are not aware of.  As long as this occurs, our light for Christ will be dimmed.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33)  If the Lord is not first in our life, he will not provide for all our needs and our light for Christ will be dim.  If our hearts do not desire to put the Lord first, then Satan has a foothold in our lives. If we are self-deceived then our hearts are also deceived, and this is a dangerous situation that Satan has put is in.

Never let the fire in your heart go out. Keep it alive. Serve the Lord. (Romans 12:11) A foothold of sin will weaken the fire in our hearts thereby dimming the light of Christ that we reflect. How can we reflect the Light of Christ who had no sin, if we are carrying sin because we are self-deceived? We all sin even though we hate sin, but we seek forgiveness from Christ and the power to overcome, then the fire in our Spirit illuminates our light for Christ at its brightest.

We can keep the fire in our Spirit burning if we check our life and make sure we are doing our best to put the Lord first. This means we schedule our worldly desires around what God has called us to do. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. (Psalm 34:8) When we serve the Lord, we will find that things of God are more interesting and rewarding than things of the world. When our heart reaches this state, we seek to serve the Lord, study his Word, pray, never miss a fellowship, and then, our light will shine brighter.

Today, make sure your light for Christ is shining bright, and the fire is burning in your Spirit driving your motivations.  Commune with the Lord today as much as possible keeping the light shining and the fire in your soul, filling you with love, peace, and joy.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for the Holy Spirit that drives the light of Christ in me. Let people see the light, the love, compassion, and care. Lord keep, Satan from deceiving me through the Holy Spirit so that I will never be self-deceived but always walk in your truth.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
