Showing Our Love for God

Posted on

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3

We can have all the knowledge but without love, I am nothing. We can do works, but without love, I gain nothing. We serve the Lord driven by a heart of love that makes us pleasing to the Lord.  Just as Jesus ministered to everyone with a heart of love and sacrificed himself on the cross because he loves us.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. ’The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”  How do we show the Lord that we love him with all heart, soul, mind and strength?

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. (Matthew 25:35-36)   As we show our love to people, we show our love to God. The more love we show others, the more love grows in our hearts, even to where we love our enemies. The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40). Notice all the items listed in verses 35-36 are all physical needs.  If we are not concerned by a person’s physical needs, will they see God’s love from us?

Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. (Matthew 25:40) If our hearts are filled with God’s love, then we will be driven to help others. God is looking for his people to be a light in this world driven by a heart filled with love, compassion, and care, which we extend to all people.

Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. (1 John 2:6) Jesus is a model for our life, both in his ministry and his relationship with the Father.  If we live as Jesus lived with a heart filled with love, we will seek opportunities to help people and tell them about Christ. We do this with dependence on Christ just a Jesus depended on the Father. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)

Today ask the Lord to fill your heart with His love to drive your faith to be a light for Christ.  Interface to the world today revealing the heart of Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, guide my heart today to reflect your love to others.  Help me to see open doors and opportunities to share the good news of Christ.  Give me the words and the desire to encourage others.  In Jesus’ name, Amen
