Shelter of the Almighty

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty

Psalm 91:1

If we dwell in the shelter of the Most High, then we will have rest in shadow of the Almighty. So what does it mean to dwell in the shelter of the Most High? It’s taking time to focus our thoughts on things above with no worldly thoughts. We can continually dwell in the shelter of the Most High if we know the Word and we commune with Lord during the day.

Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. (Hebrews 13:15 NASB) When we take the time to praise the Lord from a heart of thankfulness, peace flows through us giving rest to our souls. We praise the Lord for our benefit; the Lord is fully self-sufficient and needs nothing, but he loves us and feeds his peace into our souls.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) This verse will give peace to our souls in any situation. I had triple by bypass surgery on 7 Oct 2020, and while struggling through recovery I prayed giving thanks, and the result was rest for my soul while recovering in the flesh. It’s difficult to explain, but when the soul is in the shelter of the Almighty, it has a relaxing effect on the flesh.

Having a truly thankful heart for the Father’s love through Christ, giving eternal life to those who accept Christ as their Lord and Savior, is the foundation of living in the shelter of the Almighty. How can we love the Lord without a thankful heart, without realizing the price Christ paid for our sin?  Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17) If we take this verse to heart, we will have a truly thankful heart that offers praise and thanks to the Lord which keeps us in the shelter of the Almighty.

Today, take time to praise and thank the Lord.  Notice the peace that occurs. Make this a habit and live in the shelter of the Almighty.

Prayer: Lord, increase your love in my heart with thankfulness and praise. Praising your name is always uplifting and draws me closer to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen
