Seeking the Lord

Posted on

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13

What does it mean to seek the Lord? Does this mean to understand the Lord? To know the Lord? To know his commands? Does it mean to trust him more or to just give him complete control? How do we seek the Lord? With more Bible study, more worship service, more obedience, and more prayer? We will attempt to explain what it means to seek the Lord with all of our hearts, and how it is that we do this.

More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ. (Philippians 3:8) The Lord created us in his image and fills us with his Spirit so that we may know him and have a close, loving relationship with him. Everything we know about God is centered on us knowing him and desiring to be with him for eternity in heaven. This is God’s desire, to have a loving family who knows him, a family that he can love and bless for eternity. Therefore to seek the Lord is to know him intimately.

We learn about God from the Bible and come to know him by obeying his commands. We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. (1 John 2:3) We trust the Lord, give him control, and depend on him. Unless we fully surrender to the Lord, we will never understand or know him the way we should. Seeking the Lord comes from totally trusting his ways, praying, giving him control, and depending on him for the results of everything.

We seek the Lord by obeying his commands which is being a light for Christ in this sinful world. We minister personally to people the way Jesus did, and we experience his thoughts and emotions. This is how we identify with Jesus and come to know him, to know his heart. There is nothing more fulfilling in life than seeking the Lord and knowing him, to go to prayer with the same understanding heart.

Seeking the Lord with all of our hearts means that we are not sharing our hearts with the world. Christ takes priority over everything in our lives. And he said to all, if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. (Luke 9:23) We deny our own desires and schedules and give the Lord priority, following Christ wherever he leads us. We follow the Spirit and commune with the Lord throughout the day. We thank and praise the Lord, we ask for guidance in our choices, we ask for his words to bring others to Christ, and we ask for understanding. This helps us to make Godly, wise choices, to depend on the Lord, and to walk in his divine, loving will.

Today seek the Lord and his will. Make Godly, wise choices, and be a light for Christ.   Seek the Lord through prayer, through his Word, and through ministry to others. He hears your every thought and word, he cares and understands every detail of your life, and he is interested in helping you with his divine love, wisdom, and power.

Let’s Pray: Lord, help me to seek you with all my heart. Keep my heart from being divided, but obedient to your divine will. Give me the faith to fully surrender to you, living as your servant, and to truly give you control so that I can be free in Christ. Thank you for your perfect love, and for caring about every detail of my life. In Jesus name, Amen
