Seeking God

Posted on

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13

What does it mean to seek the Lord with all our heart? If we are not seeking the Lord with all our heart then we must be seeking him with a divided heart. Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images (Hosea 10:2) The Israelites in Hosea’s day were worshiping both pagan gods and the true God. Do we sometimes worship a false god and the true God?

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) Seeking the Lord with all our heart we must deny self and follow Christ. If we do not deny self we are following a false god, ourselves. A divided heart worships both self and God.

We deny self and follow Christ because of our faith. When we fully trust God and his ways, we strive to walk in his divine will, but sometimes our own plans and desires can override God’s will. Our own justification can blind our hearts to God’s will. This is a dangerous situation that is overcome by prayers, asking God that we always do his will, and we may need to seek counsel from a close Christian friend.

For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:7-8) Having a divided heart or being double-minded, makes a person unstable. An unstable mind can hinder our faith causing us to sometimes choose our will over God’s will. If our faith is firm and secure in God’s promises, we will seek the Lord’s will with all our heart.

Today be secure in your faith and choose the Lord’s will with your thoughts, words, and actions. Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10) Be still on the inside and follow the Spirit’s guidance. Seek to walk in Godly wisdom guided by his Word through the Spirit. Note the confidence from the Lord when you seek to follow his will.

Prayer: Lord today let me seek you with all my heart and not to be unstable in my faith. I pray the Spirit will guide me through this day that I may walk in your wisdom and with your heart of love. Fill my soul with peace and joy, with confidence in Christ. Thank you for your willingness to help me through this day. In Jesus name, Amen
