Seek to be Spiritually Still

Posted on

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10

We live this verse by slowing down spiritually, being connected to the Lord with a dependent heart. We live in a fast paced world with many tasks to achieve each day, but if we are spiritually connected to the Lord, we can move more efficiently and remain relaxed. Even when we are rushed, we can remain still in the spirit.

But I have calmed and quieted my soul—like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. (Psalm 131:2) If we truly trust the Lord and we develop patience from the Spirit, we can be still in our soul and life will be more relaxed on the inside even if our day is chaotic.  It is always good to plan the tasks of the day in priority and in sequence and seek to not overload the day. If your days are overloaded seek a change if possible. For example on Friday I had four classes starting 7 AM and ending at 7:30 PM. I was physically tired all weekend from the tasks on Friday.  Therefore, I rescheduled one class from Friday to Tuesday and this greatly improved my schedule because one class required an hour drive with lots of traffic on Friday and there was very little traffic on Tuesday. In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. (Proverbs 16:9)

Serving the Lord is easier when we are still in our spirit because it can slow us down in the physical and help overcome temptations. Did ever see Jesus in a rush, he always lived each moment with purpose, seeking to help someone or teach someone.  He always seemed to be in control and never rushed. But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer. (Luke 5:16) Jesus’ ministry was full and he needed to get away from people and pray to the Father. Communing with the Lord by taking time to pray in the morning, during our day and the evening will help us give first priority to serving the Lord, and this will slow us down.

Today, start by praying that the Lord will help you to be still and relaxed on the spirit. Keep practicing being still by communing with the Lord, especially at times of stress, and ask the Lord for peace.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to be still and know you are God.  Let the Spirit calm me when I am in a rush or in stress. Fill my soul with your love, peace, and joy because it will enable me to be still in the Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen
